One day as she sat in the chapel meditating, she contemplated everything she’d learned during her time in the In-Between. She had been searching for her soul’s mission since she started the program. She looked up at the stained glass windows and smiled. Then she looked down at Nigel, who rested quietly next to her feet. He gazed up at her and cocked his head.
A peace settled on her as the answer came to her. She wanted to help people and she wanted Nigel to help, too. Excitement welled within her as she got up and walked briskly down the hallway to her counselor’s office. Nigel followed, panting with anticipation.
Not even knocking on the door, Olivia pushed it open and saw Dr. Meredith sitting behind her desk.
“I know what I want to do!” she burst out, with hands clasped together.
Dr. Meredith looked up and grinned. “Well, aren’t you going to wait to share it in group?”
“Well, alright then,” the doctor smiled, signaling for her to take a seat. “What is it that you’ve decided, Olivia?”
“I want to be a K-9 handler; a cop.”
The doctor beamed as if she already knew.
